Fulfills needs and provides firsthand support for Veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury through a variety of therapeutic programs that are not dependent on prescription drugs.
Purchases comfort items and recreational opportunities, from loose-fitting sweat suits for burn victims to amusement park tickets for families of hospitalized military personnel recovering from wounds and illnesses.
Awards college scholarships to children of post-9/11 Veterans who died on active duty, or have a combined VA disability rating of 50 percent or greater.
Provides relief, support, shelter, training and compassion for homeless Veterans.
Provides volunteer hours and services at VA medical facilities at an estimated annual value of $20 million.
Distributes urgent cash assistance to Veterans whose homes have been badly damaged or destroyed by natural disasters.
Supports members, Veterans, service members and others with tools to take action when they believe a Veteran is at risk in order to reduce the number of Veteran suicides through the Be The One initiative.
Delivers, free of charge, all U.S. flags for the graves of American military personnel laid to rest at overseas cemeteries.

Kennith Mueller was awarded a certificate for 50 years of continuous American Legion Membership by Rich Huntley Department of Texas Commander.

Boys State Statemen for 2025. Several came to our monthly meeting and regaled us about their experiences at Boys State. Each one said they enjoyed the experience and learned a lot about the way our government works. They each said they made new friends from other parts of the state and plan to keep in touch with them.

We honored our local Police, Sheriff’s Department, EMS, and Firefighters. These First Responders were selected by their peers to receive the awards. Washington County Deputy of the Year: Adam Zavala. Brenham Police Officer of the year: Andrea Guerra. EMS – Paramedic of the Year: Zach Muehsler. Firefighter of the Year: Stephen Draehn. We thank them for their dedication and service to the people of Washington County and Brenham.

On Flag Day, the American Legion conducts a flag disposal ceremony for any flags deemed no longer serviceable.
